Aggies QB Conner Weigman OUT For Season With Injury
The Texas A&M Aggies look to have suffered a major blow on Wednesday when it was reported that starting quarterback Conner Weigman was lost for the season with a foot injury.
Weigman is expected to be sidelined for three to four months.
"Toughest of news for A&M football. Per everything I've heard since yesterday and from sources very close to situation, QB Conner Weigman's foot injury is, in fact, a season-ender for the emerging SEC star," TexAgs' Billy Liucci reported on Twitter. "Weight-bearing bone and roughly a 3.5-month recovery."
A&M coach Jimbo Fisher indicated on Monday that Weigman was day-to-day, leading many to believe that Weigman would be back sooner than later.
Instead, the Aggies will now turn to backup Max Johnson vs. Arkansas and beyond - something Fisher is more than comfortable with.
“You have two guys, guys I’ve said from the beginning I’ve felt very confident with,” Fisher said. “(Johnson) came in and played excellent football and did a great job. He made plays and really led us through the game.”
At the time of his injury vs. Auburn, Weigman was 8-for-14 for 70 yards in almost a complete first half, starting 7-of-8 before closing the opening frame 1-for-6.
This season through three games, Weigman has completed 70.48 percent of his 105 pass attempts for 909 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.
In relief of Weigman against the Tigers, Johnson helped the Aggies post 21 points while completing 7 of 11 passes for 123 yards, leading Texas A&M to victory in the process.
Johnson also led the Aggies to a win last season vs. Arkansas in the Southwest Classic in Arlington, throwing for 151 yards and a touchdown.
