Aggies Add Richmond Transfer OL Derek Ferraro
The countdown to the 2023 college football season continues as we're now just 42 days until Texas A&M hosts New Mexico on Sept. 2nd. Jimbo Fisher and his staff are vigorously attempting to improve the Aggies' roster in hopes of washing away the 5-7 record from a season ago.
Against that backdrop, A&M has added some depth along the offensive line by adding Richmond transfer Derek Ferraro as a preferred walk-on. Ferraro was a recruit from the class of 2018.
The 6-6, 303-pound Purchase, N.Y. native spent four seasons with the Rice Owls before transferring to Richmond for the 2022 season, where he played in nine games for the Spiders. A&M boasts two returning starters from a season ago along the offensive line in Reuben Fatheree and Trey Zuhn, and Fisher wanted to add some experience to the depth chart behind those two anchors.
Ferraro was originally a three-star recruit out of New York and was the No. 273 offensive lineman in the nation per On3. He initially received offers from Maine, Fordham, and Buffalo before committing to Rice in Jan. 2018.
It's possible Ferraro could compete with true freshman Chase Bisontis who has played with the first team in the spring. Dametrious Crownover could also be in the running for a starting role after switching from tight end to offensive line after arriving in College Station.
