Texas A&M's Bobby Petrino Named One of '10 Most Interesting Coordinator Hires'
The Texas A&M Aggies made a major change this offseason, hiring longtime college football coach Bobby Petrino as its new offensive coordinator.
Now that Petrino coming in, Aggies head coach Jimbo Fisher will no longer be calling plays, making for a new-look system in College Station in 2023.
And with Fisher now thought to be either on the hot seat or at the very least, on a short leash, it is certainly an interesting time to make such a major shift for the program.
With that in mind, 247Sports ranked their top-10 most interesting coordinator hires in college football, with Petrino coming in at No. 5.
How much will Texas A&M's offense change philosophically with Petrino's return to the SEC? Will Jimbo Fisher hand over his litany of papers and get out of the way? These are questions that makes the Aggies' new face on offense extremely interesting given the pressure this program faces in 2023. Not only will Petrino's job be to get the most of out the quarterback execution, but generating explosive plays is a top priority given the talent he'll have to work with in College Station. This hire, potentially above all others in this ranking, can't backfire on Texas A&M.
Other names coming in ahead of Petrino on the list were Phil Longo's hire by Wisconsin as offensive coordinator, Colorado defensive coordinator Charles Kelly at No. 3, Alabama OC hire, Tommy Rees, at No. 2, and Clemson's hiring of former TCU play caller, Garrett Riley at the top spot.
