Three Aggies Earn SEC Golf Honors

The Texas A&M Aggies men's golf received national recognition, as three golfers have been recognized as the SEC announced the men's golf season awards on Thursday.

The Texas A&M Aggies men's golf team has had some highs this season. Most notable was Sam Bennet's appearance at the 2023 Masters where he was in contention most of the week and finished tied for 16th. Bennett had one of the more memorable weeks for an amateur at Augusta National.

And now, national recognition on a different level, as three Aggies golfers have been recognized as the SEC announced the men's golf season awards on Thursday.

The aforementioned Bennett and William Paysse both earned All-SEC honors while Michael Heidelbaugh was selected to the SEC Community Service Team.

It's the third consecutive All-SEC selection for Bennett and the second All-SEC award for Paysse.

Bennett, who already filled his trophy case with the 122nd U.S. Amateur championship as well as the Silver Cup as the low amateur at the Masters this past April. And now he finds SEC recognition for the fifth consecutive season. This season, Bennett owns a 70.41 scoring average, including -0.97 vs. par in 29 rounds. He earned his fifth career collegiate win at the 2023 John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.

Paysse has battled injury this season, but still managed to post a 71.39 scoring average over eight tournaments played, and registered three top-10 finishes, including a win at the Badger Invitational.

Heidelbaugh kept himself busy with service projects, earning a spot on the SEC Community Service Team. Per 12thMan.com, "Serving as a Texas A&M Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative, he is the point man for the men's golf team's community service initiatives. He is involved in Aggies CAN, the largest student-athlete volunteer-run canned food drive in the country, and The Big Event, the largest one-day student-run service project in the nation. Heidelbaugh also spearheads the team's annual day of community service at Traditions Club, with trash pickup and light maintenance in areas surrounding the course. Outside of activities at A&M, he volunteers at Dallas Life homeless recovery shelter during visits home, as well as serving as a coach at junior golfer camps at his home course."

Aggies men's golf returns to the course on Monday as they tee off at the NCA ASalem Regional from The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, South Carolina.
