4-Star 2024 QB Anthony Maddox Jr. Commits to Texas A&M
Even after signing a talented quarterback in the 2023 class, finding another one in the 2024 cycle was priority No. 1 for the Texas A&M Aggies.
On Monday, they did just that, securing the commitment of 2024 Oak Grove (Hattiesburg, MS) four-star quarterback, Anthony Maddox Jr.
"(Head coach Jimbo Fisher and offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino) made it clear early that I was the guy for them in the 2024 class," Maddox told AllAggies.com in an exclusive interview. "They already have a guy committed in the 23 class, but they made it very clear that I am the guy for their system."
Maddox picked the Aggies over offers from Alabama, Penn State, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Tulane and more.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound signal-caller ranks as the No. 19 quarterback in the country and the No. 6 player in Mississippi, per On3.
And he hopes to bring the same kind of success to Petrino and Fisher's offense that past star quarterbacks such as Heisman Trophy winners Lamar Jackson and Jameis Winston have in the past.
"Man, it's an honor, to be honest," Maddox said. "I grew up watching Lamar Jackson, Jameis Winston, E.J. Manuel, Teddy Bridgewater and guys like that, and I just really tried to mold my game after them. I'm just blessed for the opportunity that they looked at me as such, and I'm looking forward to getting up there soon."
Lofty goals for sure, but with the talent Maddox possesses, the sky is the limit for both he and the Aggies going forward.
Maddox now becomes the fourth commitment of the 2024 class for the Aggies, joining defensive lineman Dealyn Evans, interior offensive lineman Ashton Funk, and wide receiver, Debron Gatling.
