Texas A&M Pushing Big Ten Commitment After Fresh Offer

Illinois native, tight end prospect Eric Karner is trying to get to College Station soon
In this story:

Recruiting is fluid.

It's especially true on the college football front, where prospects make early decisions and continue to get courted by others, in one of countless samples of how much changes from the early part of the process to the thick of it.

For Eric Karner, the Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception tight end recruit at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, Texas A&M is the new player in his recruitment. The recent Purdue commitment, who announced for the program on March 7, is already trying to set up a trip to College Station as a result.

"I think A&M is a huge step for my recruitment process, a great program with a lot to offer," Karner told John Garcia, Jr. "They said that it’s a real offer and they aren't joking around.

"Coach (James) Coley seems very interested. He said that I am one of the most versatile players he’s recruited."

The rising-senior recruit, equipped with more than one dozen scholarship offers, has already hit another campus since the Boilermaker commitment went down. He was at Michigan State last weekend and will be taking a few more trips going forward.

"Minnesota this Saturday," he said. "And I’m going to try and get up to A&M and OU this next week."

Karner, who was a jumbo receiver before making the full move to tight end as a junior, averaged better than 16 yards per reception in 2022 en route to a state championship according to MaxPreps.
