Ex Texas A&M Aggies QB Kellen Mond Signs With New Orleans Saints
Former Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond has another new NFL home.
The Aggies all-time leading passer signed a contract with the NFC South's New Orleans Saints on Friday, marking Mond's fourth team after previous stints with Minnesota, Cleveland and Indianapolis.
Mond hasn't seen regular season playing time since 2021 with the Vikings, when he appeared in one game.
There were high hopes for Mond coming out of Aggieland in 2021. He was drafted in the third round at No. 66 overall by Minnesota to compete for a backup job to Kirk Cousins. Mond ended up being third on the depth chart behind Cousins and Sean Mannion.
Mond was waived by the Vikings in 2022 and immediately picked up by the Cleveland Browns where he stayed until the following season before being released again.
He was added to the Indianapolis Colts practice squad in October of last year until his contract expired at the end of the season. After being a free agent this offseason, he was picked up by the Saints and signed a contract that's terms were not disclosed.
Mond joins another crowded quarterbacks room that includes Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Nathan Peterman and Taysom Hill - although Hill is used as a receiver and running back more than quarterback.
With Hill on the roster and serving as the third quarterback, Mond might have to beat out Haener and Peterman for the No. 2 job.
