TCU Baseball: Taylor Leads On Into College World Series

Throughout the 2023 college baseball season, TCU has seen one of the most impressive turn-around seasons in recent memory. Going from a team that wasn’t even in the NCAA Postseason tournament picture to finding themselves in the Men's College World Series is no easy accomplishment.
But who has been the X-Factor for the Horned Frogs in their historic postseason run? The answer is, likely first-round draft pick, Brayden Taylor. The third baseman has become the face of TCU by having historic seasons in 2021 and 2022 and has set the single-season home run record in his 3rd season with the Horned Frogs.
While the Horned Frogs headed to Omaha on Wednesday looking to make some noise, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for this team halfway through the season. After losing three series in a row to UNC Wilmington, West Virginia, and Texas, TCU was projected to miss the NCAA Tournament by at least 5-6 spots.
At this time, Brayden Taylor was batting .267, a career low for him during his time here in Funkytown. Two months later, even after struggling against a good Indiana State pitching staff, Taylor now has a batting average of .314 and will be a hitter opposing pitchers have to be mindful of.
While Taylor's bat and glove have always been impressive, what has been extremely impressive this year in particular, is his ability to jumpstart the team offensively early in the game. We have seen incredible performances from other Horned Frogs in the postseason, Tre Richardson’s 3-homerun game against Arkansas and Kole Klecker’s 3-hit shutout against Indiana State, but Brayden Taylor has a reputation for being a consistent hitter.
As the Horned Frogs look to continue their postseason success, all eyes will be on the 3rd baseman as the Horned Frogs square off against Oral Roberts on Friday at 1 p.m.
