For the last 11 days, the Men's College World Series, or "The Greatest Show on Dirt," has captivated our attention. Eight teams started the journey in Omaha on June 16. Those eight became two, and those two became one.

In the national championship series, No. 5 LSU won the first game on Saturday night in the 11th inning. No. 2 Florida then put on an offensive show on Sunday afternoon to destroy the Tigers 24-4.

So, on Monday night, baseball fans got a decisive Game Three. After over a week of very close games throughout the MCWS, the last two games were complete blowouts. LSU beat Florida 18-4 to win the Natty.

College World Series Finals - Game Three

No. 5 LSU (2-1) 18 - No. 2 Florida (1-2) 4

Jac Caglianone got the start for the Gators on the mound. He gave up a leadoff hit in the first, but then retired the next three batters. That was as good as his night got. He would only make it 1.1 innings.

Florida centerfielder Wyatt Langford got a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 1st to put Florida on the board first.

Then the wheels came off. In the top of the 2nd, the Tigers would get five hits, three walks, and a hit-by-pitch, all while bringing 12 batters to the plate. LSU would get six runs that inning and never looked back.

LSU would get 24 hits, setting a new record for hits in an MCWS game, surpassing the 23 hits by Florida set just the day before.

Florida would add a run in the bottom of the 7th and another in the 8th. Meanwhile, LSU would get a 4-spot in the 4th, add one in the 7th, add three in the 8th, and end with another 4-spot in the 9th.

Winning Pitcher: Thatcher Hurd; Losing Pitcher: Jac Caglianone

LSU wins the series and is the 2023 college baseball National Champion.

  • The win gave the Tigers their first championship since 2008
  • This was the seventh national championship for LSU, moving them into sole possession of second place only behind USC and now ahead of Texas
  • LSU because only the third team (Cal State Fullerton, 2004; South Carolina, 2011) to take down both the No. 1 and No. 2 national seeds to win the championship. (LSU eliminated No. 1 Wake Forest on Thursday night before knocking off No. 2 Florida in the championship series
  • LSU became the first school to win a national championship in baseball and basketball (men's or women's) in the same year (The LSU women's basketball team won the national championship in April.)
