The College World Series delivered another pair of good games on Sunday. TCU eliminated Virginia in a nail-biter by a score of 4-3, and Florida inched past Oral Roberts, holding on with a 5-4 victory. This year's CWS has been one of the most competitive in its history and I do not expect that to change today.
MCWS Game 7 - Tennessee vs. Stanford
The Cardinal led Wake Forest in most of its game on Saturday, but lost the lead in the eighth inning thanks to a two-run single from the Demon Deacons. The point is, they hung with the nation's best team and probably feel like they should have won it. Unluckily for them, it gets no easier in the losers' bracket. Tennessee's team ERA is 3.62, and average second in the country only to Wake Forest. The Vols lost to LSU 6-3, which so far is the only game in Omaha this year that has not been a one-run game. Junior pitcher Chase Dollander will start on the mound for Tennessee and will have to have his best stuff to slow down Stanford's offense, a unit that has the ninth best batting average in the country (.318).
The game will begin at 1 pm CT and will air on ESPN.
MCWS Game 8 - LSU vs. Wake Forest
If all things go as expected, this could be one of the best games of the season. Both of these teams have been ranked No. 1 in the country at some point in the season. Wake Forest holds that crown now, while LSU lurks closely at No. 5. Both teams combined have an impressive number of potential first-round draft picks, including LSU outfielder Dylan Crews, potential No. 1 overall pick, who is batting .433 with 17 home runs and 67 RBIs and Wake Forest ace Rhett Lowder, who currently has an ERA of 1.99. Lowder won't go tonight because he started Saturday's game, so Wake will rely on the remaining rotation to get the job done. It will presumably be Josh Hartle on the mound for the Deacons. Hartle has an ERA of 2.80 and is 11-2 in 17 appearances. This game has the makings of a classic that you will not want to miss.
The game begins at 6 pm CT and will air on ESPN.
