In baseball, it seems like there are players on every team that are able to kick it up a notch when their team enters the postseason. There have been many performances for the Horned Frogs this postseason that have been memorable, but Cole Fontenelle has set himself apart from the other storylines in a different way. Consistency.

During the season, it was Brayden Taylor that delivered when the team needed him most, and in the Big 12 Tournament and Fayetteville Regional, Taylor looked like a guaranteed first-round draft pick. It was only when the super-regionals started that Taylor ran into trouble facing some good pitching and defense. With a trip to Omaha potentially on the line, the Horned Frogs needed somebody to step up offensively, and Fontenelle answered the call.

Consistency is something that many baseball players struggle with at any level. Cole Fontenelle, the Horned Frogs 1st baseman, saw the ball well in almost every game of the postseason. He finished batting .352 on the year but was 18/36 since the Big 12 Championship game. This includes his performance against a good Indiana State pitching staff, going 5 for 7 with a home run.

Not only was he hitting the ball, but also playing smart baseball as well. He had multiple sacrifice fly balls leading him to have 6 RBIs in the College World Series. To put how impressive this type of performance is into perspective, most college baseball players are lucky to hit over .320 for the entire season, as well as hit over .250 for the post-season.

Although the Horned Frogs season has come to an end along with Brayden Taylor likely leaving for the MLB Draft, the TCU baseball program has a lot to be excited about when the 2024 season begins.
