Frogball fans...we knew it would come at some point this season. TCU Baseball is no longer undefeated as Kansas beat the #3 ranked Horned Frogs 3-1 on Friday night. There isn't much to say about why or how the Frogs came up short, other than that it just wasn't TCU's day. After all, any team can beat any team on any given day.

TCU Summary

The Horned Frogs started Friday night's game in control. The offense got a run across early in the game, and Payton Tolle was having a great outing on the mound. It wasn't until the 5th inning that TCU ran into trouble. Towards the beginning of the inning, Tolle showed some discomfort in his right leg. After Coach Saarloos came out to talk to the lefty, Kansas hit a 2-run homerun to take the lead. Ben Abeldt would be the first out of the bullpen for the Frogs.

The TCU bullpen would finish the game combining for 4.0 IP, allowing one run.

The Frog's offense had a rough start to Big 12 Baseball tallying 14 strikeouts in last night's game, the 2nd most they've had in a game this season. It was also the first time that TCU has not had an extra-base hit in a game this season.

TCU Pitching Final Lines:

  • Payton Tolle: 4.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 strikeouts
  • Ben Abeldt: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 strikeouts
  • Hunter Hodges: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 strikeout
  • Chase Hoover: 0.2 IP, 1 H
  • Colt Taylor: 0.2 IP, 0 H

Kansas Summary

Kansas out-hit the Frogs tonight, but not in the way you might think. The 2-run shot by Chase Diggins does help, but the fact of the matter is, Kansas put the ball in play. Moving runners around the basepaths with balls put in play allowed them to threaten in multiple innings. Kansas had more opportunities to score forcing the TCU pitching staff to deliver in a few key innings.

The biggest difference-maker for the Jayhawks was Reese Dutton, who had an extremely impressive final line against the #3 Horned Frogs. The Kansas bullpen followed in Dutton's footsteps by tallying 6 Ks on the final 6 TCU hitters to end the game.

Kansas Pitching Final Lines:

  • Reese Dutton: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 strikeouts
  • Tegan Cain: 1.0 IP, 3 strikeouts
  • Hunter Cranton: 1.0 IP, 3 strikeouts,

TCU will look to even the series tomorrow at 2 p.m.
