TCU Baseball: Horned Frogs Lose Heart Breaker to Texas

A ninth inning rally fell short as TCU has now lost seven of their last eight.

It was another heart breaking loss for the TCU Horned Frogs as they lost game two to Texas 3-2. Despite a strong pitching performance, the offense fell short.

TCU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Tre Richardson doubled to right field bringing home Elijah Nunez. In the second inning, Nunez tripled down the right field line to make it 2-0 Frogs. Nunez has looked a lot more comfortable at the plate now that he is back in the leadoff spot. In the last three games, Nunez is 5-12.

However, Texas would respond in the top of the third. Peyton Powell doubled in Jack O'Dowd and the next batter Dylan Campbell flew out to center bringing home the tying run.

Louis Rodriguez got his second career start for the Horned Frogs. He pitched six innings of work giving up four hits on two earned runs and four strikeouts. It was a solid outing for Rodriguez and kept the Frogs in it. Luke Savage came into relief and in the eighth inning, surrendered a leadoff walk which would eventually be the go-ahead run. Peyton Powell was the hero for the Longhorns with a single up the middle and gave Texas a 3-2 lead.

Things did get dicey in the ninth inning. Karson Bowen led off with a single and moved to third thanks to Kurtis Byrne. Logan Maxwell would follow and hit a shallow fly ball to left field. Bowen would try to tag but would get thrown out by Porter Brown. It was yet another tough loss and now TCU will try to salvage a win tomorrow at 1 p.m.
