The TCU Horned Frogs (18-12, 5-5) are hosting the No. 16 Oklahoma State Cowboys (18-3, 7-3) for a Thursday-Saturday series. In the opener on Thursday, the Frogs' late-inning rally fell short. OSU won 7-6.

Chase Hoover got the start to open the series for the Frogs and took the loss. He got roughed up by Oklahoma State, giving up seven runs on seven hits over four innings of work.

That was all the runs TCU pitching would give up. Ryan Vanderhei, who had been starting on Fridays for the Frogs until this week, tossed three scoreless innings in relief. River Ridings and Hunter Hodges finished off the work on the mound.

The Cowboys flexed their muscles early in the first inning. With two outs, David Medham and Tyler Wulfret each hit a solo home run.

TCU answered back by tying the game in the bottom of the first.

Oklahoma State again put up crooked numbers in the third and fifth innings to take a 7-3 lead in the fifth.

Cole Fontenelle launched his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning. TCU also scored once in the sixth and twice in the eighth.

They were unable to rally in the bottom of the ninth, dropping the opener to the Cowboys.

TCU falls to 18-11 on the season. Game two is set to be broadcast on ESPNU at 8 p.m. CT. Kole Klecker will be on the bump looking to get the Frogs back on track.
