We’ve said it before and will say it again. Big 12 men’s basketball is a gauntlet. Every game is like a March Madness game. On any given day, any team can beat any other team. There is no easy win.

Saturday’s slate of games showed us just that.

Another Saturday. Another day of heart-stopping, breath-holding games. Another day of anything can happen in the nation’s most competitive men’s basketball conference.

In the seven games, BYU was the only favored team to win its game.

It started with No. 25 TCU and Texas. The Longhorns made their last trip to the Schollmaier as Big 12 opponents. The Frogs started off strong but quickly, once again, found themselves down by double digits. TCU made it a game, and it was tied with 3:53 left. Texas would then go on a 13-2 run to finish the game and win 77-66.

Oklahoma State, for the second straight Saturday, won a conference game. This time, it was a 75-72 win over Kansas State. No. 23 Oklahoma traveled to UCF, and the Knights came away with a double-digit win, 74-63.

On Saturday, there were three games featuring two Top-Ten games. One of those was at Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas. No. 4 Houston took on No. 8 Kansas. The Cougars learned just how tough it is to win in the Phog. The Jayhawks were in control the entire game and won 78-65.

No. 22 BYU hosted West Virginia. These Cougars were 6.5-point favorites and were the only ones to cover the spread. They beat the Mountaineers 86-73.

Texas Tech, who beat two ranked teams the week before, found themselves on the losing side to both games this week. On Saturday, they lost in Lubbock, a very challenging place for visiting teams, to Cincinnati 75-72.

In the nightcap, in a game featuring two ranked teams, Baylor squeaked by with a 70-68 win over Iowa State. The Cyclones had a chance with less than a second to play. What looked like a game-winning 3-point shot was reviewed and deemed that the shot did not get off before the buzzer.

The conference’s NET ranking of 45.6 is the lowest of all leagues. The next lowest are the Big Ten at 62.8 and the SEC at 68.6

The Big 12 leads the nation in ranked teams for the 10th consecutive week (since Nov. 27) and has eight rated teams for the second week in the last three. The Jan. 29 rankings are No. 4/4 Houston, No. 8/9 Kansas, No. 12/11 Iowa State, No. 15/15 Texas Tech, No. 18/18 Baylor, No. 22/21 BYU, No. 23/24 Oklahoma and No. 25/25 TCU. Texas received votes. Iowa State made one of the biggest jumps of the season in the AP poll, rising 11 spots.
