Last week's No. 1 team, the Kansas Jayhawks, lost their first game of the season last week against then-No. 4 Marquette 73-59 in the Maui Classic. The loss dropped the preseason favorite down to the No. 5 spot in the AP Top 25 and to No. 6 in the Coaches Poll in Week 4. The other top teams all moved up. Purdue is now No. 1 followed by Arizona, Marquette, and UConn.

TCU has started the season 6-0 for the first time since 2017-18. They still have not cracked the top 25 but with three upcoming games against Power Five teams, they could enter the polls soon.  :: Brian McLean, On Assignment Photo/KillerFrogs

TCU, despite a 6-0 start, remains in the "receiving votes" category in both polls. The Horned Frogs have played one of the weakest schedules thus far, but their remaining schedule is one of the toughest in the nation. ESPN ranks TCU's remaining schedule as the third most difficult. TCU will face three straight teams from Power Five conferences either on the road or at neutral sites over the next couple of weeks. Wins in those games should get the team ranked. A loss or two will make the wait for a ranking even that much longer.

Ten teams from the Big 12, more than half the teams in the league, are either ranked or receiving votes this week. Here are the Big 12 teams either ranked or receiving votes:

  • Kansas - No. 5 in the AP Top 25 and No. 6 in the Coaches Poll
  • Houston - No. 6 in the AP Top 25 and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll
  • Baylor - No. 9 in both polls
  • Texas - No. 16 in the AP Top 25 and No. 18 in the Coaches Poll
  • BYU - No. 19 in both polls
  • Oklahoma - No. 25 in the AP Top 25 and receiving votes in the Coaches Poll (#31)
  • TCU - Receiving votes in both polls (30/29)
  • Iowa State - Receiving votes in both polls (36/38)
  • Cincinnati - Receiving votes in both polls (46/42)
  • Kansas State - Receiving votes in the AP Top 25 (#47)

Here are the highlights from both the AP Top 25 poll and the Coaches Poll:
