Big 12 Men’s Basketball Saturday Rundown: TCU Stops the Hemorrhaging
We keep saying that the Big 12 is a gauntlet. With six ranked teams, nearly every Big 12 game will feature at least one ranked opponent, sometimes two. Any team can beat any other team on any given day.
Saturday’s games featured two in which both teams are ranked, two with one ranked opponent, and one with neither team ranked. No. 12 Kansas State, in the Little Apple version of Farmageddon, beat No. 19 Iowa State. And just down the road, No. 5 Kansas, who was down by 17 points in the first half, came back to beat No. 9 Baylor by 16 points – a 33-point swing.
Mike Miles Jr returned to the lineup for No. 22 TCU, which helped the Frogs stop their hemorrhaging after losing four straight. They demolished Oklahoma State. In Austin, it took overtime and a missed shot at the end by the Sooners, but No. 6 Texas held off Oklahoma. And Texas Tech beat West Virginia in Morgantown.
Here are some other interesting stats about the conference:
After Saturday’s, Texas and Kansas are tied at the top of the standings at 10-4. Baylor is one game back at 9-5. Kansas State and Iowa State are at 8-6, and TCU and Oklahoma State are at 7-7.
A nation-high 60% of the league is ranked in the Top 25 in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll.
All teams in the league are in the Top 63 of NET rankings; the only league to accomplish this. Kansas is ranked No. 6, followed by Texas (9), Baylor (12), Iowa State (15), Kansas State (20), TCU (22), West Virginia (32), Oklahoma State (37), Texas Tech (54), and Oklahoma (63)
The Big 12 conference NET ranking of 26.7 is the lowest of all leagues; the next lowest is at 58.93 (Big Ten).
