TCU Basketball Drops Regular Season Finale
The TCU men's basketball team made the Big 12 Tournament a lot more interesting after losing the regular season finale to conference newcomers UCF on Saturday.
Horned Frogs center Ernest Udeh Jr. returned to the court for this contest after missing the four previous games with an injury. After Udeh won the opening tip-off, the game was tightly contested until the end, with the largest lead being only six points.
Jameer Nelson Jr. led the TCU effort with 15 points on the day, and Jacobe Coles was behind him with 14 points. The Horned Frogs finished the game shooting 42.1% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc.
TCU struggled from the free throw line, only converting on 65.6% (21-32) of their chances. On the other hand, the Knights converted on nearly 80% of their chances from the line, including a six-for-six stretch with less than four minutes to play by Darius Johnson.
Johnson scored a career-high 33 points during the contest, shooting 70% from the field with five three-pointers and shooting 100% on ten free throw attempts.
The Horned Frogs entered the day needing a win to help solidify a spot on Selection Sunday, but now the team will need a good performance in Kansas City against Oklahoma on Wednesday to help them gain a place.
