TCU Men’s Basketball: Cougars Spark Second Half Comeback As Frogs Fall In Provo
A highly anticipated matchup between two of the conference’s most prolific offenses turned into a high-scoring scoring affair that saw the Cougars generate a tremendous second half comeback.
The Frogs jumped out to a flying start, sinking seven of their first eight attempts from beyond the arc. TCU guard Trevian Tennyson made three of the Frogs’ first five three-pointers.
The Frogs continued their success throughout the first half, taking a commanding 46-29 lead into the half. But following the break, BYU answered back. Down 50-34 with 16:53 remaining, the Cougars went on a 15-0 run in the ensuing four minutes of play to cut the TCU lead to 50-49.
Just as TCU gained momentum and began to pull away, BYU found another lifeline, this time tying the game at 62 courtesy of Richie Saunders, before taking a 65-62 lead after a 3-pointer from Saunders.
After taking the lead with 7:32 left in the second half, the Cougars outscored the Frogs 20 to 11 to end the game.
The Cougars had five players in double figures for scoring. Fousseyni Traore led the way with 21 points and was followed by Trevin Knell (20), Dallin Hall (12), Richie Saunders (11), and Spencer Johnston (10).
Traore and Saunders each led the team with seven rebounds, while Hall racked up a team-high seven assists.
For TCU, Emanuel Miller led the Frogs with 15 points, Jameer Nelson Jr. finished with 14, and Trevian Tennyson had 12.
