TCU Men's Basketball Preview: Baylor
TCU will go to No. 15 Baylor in the new Foster Pavilion on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT. The Horned Frogs enter with a 14-5 record and 3-3 in conference following a 74-69 win at Oklahoma State on Tuesday.
Baylor comes into the game losers of their last two in away games versus Kansas State and Texas. Regardless, they are still 14-4 overall with a 3-2 conference record, tied for fifth in the Big 12. Ranked 15 in the AP Poll, the Bears are No. 14 in KenPom rankings and No. 15 in NET.
TCU is 3-2 on the road coming into play, and this will be the first time the Frogs will see the brand new Foster Pavilion, which opened on January 2, 2024. Baylor is undefeated at home this season, so they have the opportunity to hand the Bears their first loss in the history of the arena. Here are some keys to getting that done.
Close Out On Threes
Baylor is by far the best team in all of college basketball in three-point percentage at 42.1%. Their top five scorers all shoot better than 38% from three-point range, so everybody is a threat from downtown. Specifically, Langston Love is second in the Big 12 in three-point percentage at 47.5%, so making sure to play him tight along the perimeter is huge.
Attack Their Guards
Baylor is extremely dependent on their guard play, with four of their top five scorers being guards. It is no secret that this is hurting their team defense being ranked just 61 in the country on KenPom, so the play of TCU's guards will be the biggest X Factor for the Frogs' success. Avery Anderson III, Jameer Nelson Jr., and Trevian Tennyson have all had inconsistent starts to the year. Still, if they can get going on offense, then TCU can really exploit the Bears' biggest weakness.
Ride Miller
Emanuel Miller will be the best player on the court Saturday. He has been the go-to guy for TCU all year, leading them in both points (16.5) and rebounds (6.0). Miller is coming off the win against Oklahoma State, where he dropped 21 points and a season-high 11 rebounds, by-far the most dominant player. At this point in the season, we have learned that the best offense for TCU is playing through Emanuel and letting him be aggressive, so he will be a massive key for the Frogs to pull out the win.
This is a must-see matchup and will be one of the most exciting environments TCU will play in all year, so get excited.
