Basketball: TCU's Offense Falls Flat in Loss to No. 15 Baylor
In a low-scoring affair, No. 15 Baylor outlasted TCU 62-54 Monday night. Neither team shot the ball well. Both teams shot under 40% from the field and turned it over a combined 29 times.
Despite being held without a basket for over seven minutes in the first half, the Frogs were still within striking distance trailing 25-23 at halftime. The wasted possessions kept TCU from taking the lead. Jamie Dixon said some of the passes TCU threw were unbelievable.
Baylor led the entire second half as shots began to fall at a higher rate. The Bears shot 44% from the field and 50% from deep. Ja'Kobe Walter and Yves Missi led the way with 16 points each. Jalen Bridges had a great game contributing 15 points with four triples to go along with eight rebounds and four steals.
The Bears led by as many as 18 in the second half. As TCU tried to crawl back into the game, Baylor had a response every time. TCU mustered together the final eight points of the game making the score seem closer than it actually was.
The zone defense stifled the Frogs, and the transition offense wasn't there. They scored seven fastbreak points, the fewest in Big 12 play this season. Jameer Nelson Jr. had a team-high 11 points along with four assists.
This was an extremely disappointing loss for TCU looking to sweep the season series with Baylor. They also had a chance to move into sole possession of fourth place in the Big 12. The loss drops them to sixth place in the conference at 8-7.
Their next chance to bounce back will come on Saturday in Provo, Utah when they take on BYU at 8 p.m.
