TCU Women's Basketball: Conner Selected Big 12 Player of the Week
Welcome to Fort Worth, Madison Conner!
After playing two and a half years at Arizona, the junior guard transferred to TCU in April. She is one of several key transfers that first-year head coach Mark Campbell brought in to restart the women's basketball program. Three games into the season, it seems to be working.
On Monday, Conner was announced as the first Big 12 Player of the Week for the 2023-24 season. She is also the seventh Horned Frog to receive this honor and the first since Lauren Heard on March 9, 2021.
In the first three games, Conner averages 23.7 points, nine rebounds, and five 3-point field goals per game.
Through the first week of the season, Conner can claim these accomplishments:
- Leads the NCAA in 3-pointers (15)
- Ranks third nationally in points scored (71)
- Ranks second in the Big 12 in total rebounds (27)
- Ranks third in the Big 12 in average points per game (23.7)
Conner scripted perhaps the greatest TCU debut in the program's 47-year history on Nov. 6 against Oral Roberts. She racked up a career-high 30 points and 11 rebounds en route to her first career-double double in the Horned Frogs' 76-56 win. Conner's 30 points were the most ever by a player in their first game donning the purple and white. She also became just the fourth Horned Frog since 1999-00 to tally 30 points and ten or more rebounds in a game.
Conner was lethal from distance against the Golden Eagles. She canned 6-13 shots behind the arc, four of which came during the second and third quarters.
She pocketed an efficient 22 points on 5-12 shooting from long range two days later in TCU's 86-48 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville. Conner scored 15 of her points in the first half and sat for the entirety of the fourth quarter.
Against Rice on Sunday, Conner again produced a double-double. She finished with a game-high 19 points to pair with 11 rebounds. Conner entered halftime with 16 points on 5-10 shooting and eight rebounds to take TCU to a 35-18 edge in an eventual 67-42 win.
