TCU hired Mark Campbell to be the new women’s basketball head coach just a couple of weeks ago, and he is already making big moves. Oregon transfer Sedona Prince, one of the top players in the country, announced on her social media that she would be returning to her home state of Texas and playing for Campbell and the Horned Frogs.

Hailing from Liberty Hill, Texas, Prince began her career at the University of Texas but transferred after a freshman season that was cut short due to injury. Prince played two seasons at Oregon before she suffered an elbow injury last October, which sidelined her for the entire 2022-23 season, ending her career in Eugene. In the season before her injury, Prince averaged 9.3 points per game, 4.9 rebounds per game, and 1.3 blocks per game. She also shot 54.2% from the field and played 22 minutes per game.

Prince’s original plan following her elbow injury was to declare for the WNBA and begin her preparation for the next level. She rescinded her decision last week and promptly committed to TCU.

Campbell and Prince spent time together at Oregon, as Campbell was the associate head coach for the Ducks beforeSacramento State hired hime. The pair’s prior relationship likely played a big part in the 6’7 forward’s decision.

On last season’s TCU squad, Prince would have ranked as thethird-bestt scorer, the best rebounder and the best shot-blocker. She also would have been tied with Patricia Morris for the tallest player on the roster.

Thanks to this year’s Women’s Final Four, which garnered more attention than it ever has thanks to names like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, women’s basketball has more momentum than it has had in some time. By locking in Sedona Prince, TCU has added one of the more recognizable names in women’s basketball and also one of the best players. The Big 12’s last-placed team in 2022-23 has entered a brand new era with a new head coach and a new star.
