It took until Week 8, but there are no longer any undefeated teams in the Big 12. The Kansas Jayhawks defeated No. 6 Oklahoma, giving the Sooners their first loss of the season. The game had an hour+ weather delay in the first half. In the second half, it was a story of multiple turnovers on both sides, multiple lead changes, and multiple failed 2-point conversion attempts. In the end, the Jayhawks got the 38-33 win.

Kansas snapped an 18-game losing streak to the Sooners and became bowl eligible for the second consecutive season. It’s only the second time in school history for Kansas to go bowling in back-to-back years.

Just down I-70 in Manhattan, Kansas State had no problem with Houston, shutting out the Cougars 41-0. The stout K-State defense has now gone nine straight quarters without giving up a touchdown. In those nine quarters, they outscored their opponents 89-3.

UCF remains winless in Big 12 play as they fell to West Virginia 41-28 in the third early game of the day.

In the afternoon games, No. 7 Texas had no problem with BYU, defeating the Cougars 35-6. And just up I-35 in Waco, Iowa State easily beat Baylor 30-18.

The lone night game for the conference was Cincinnati playing at Oklahoma State. The Pokes took the lead early in the second quarter and didn’t look back after that, defeating the Bearcats 45-13.

The Big 12 now has five bowl-eligible teams – Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas.

Oklahoma’s loss made the Big 12 standings interesting as there are now five teams with a 4-1 conference record – Iowa State, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Texas. With four more weeks of games, the race for which teams make it to Arlington will be a close one. In Week 10, Oklahoma State hosts Oklahoma, and Texas hosts Kansas State, so the list of one-loss teams will be smaller.
