Crossing the Goal Line: Predicting the TCU vs Houston Football Game
Editors Note: "Crossing the Goal Line" is a weekly column by Nathan Cross in which he predicts the upcoming TCU game. He looks at the point spread, the over/under, and makes a prediction. This is his opinion and should not be taken as betting advice.
TCU is favored to win by 6.5 points with an over/under of 61.5. Let's look at why TCU will cover the spread and why I am taking the over for the game against Houston. Here are some reasons to back up my opinion.
Why TCU Will Beat The Spread Over Houston
They have knocked the rust off
This will be TCU's third game, and they should have more team chemistry by Saturday. Regardless, they know what they need to work on and do to be successful. They still need to improve on some things, but I feel like they looked better at moments last game. They will have a high-scoring game, especially if all players are healthy!
Houston has struggled to start out this season
Houston started the season barely beating UTSA, and they looked very rocky. Then, this past weekend, they lost in a high-scoring game versus Rice. They have the same record as the Frogs, but TCU looks slightly more polished. I think the Frogs will look to have a better defensive game and shut them down. The Frogs have better stats on both sides of the ball, such as total yards and total yards allowed. I believe whoever takes care of the ball will win this game.
The Frogs are looking to keep the momentum
The Frogs bounced back against Nicholls this past weekend. This was even without some of their starting receivers, such as Savion Williams. Chandler Morris also looked more comfortable. I think the more games he plays, the better he will get. Even though we were still a little rocky, I still have faith the Frogs can continue the momentum and keep improving.
Expect it to be a high scoring game
Both teams have struggled defensively, so this will be a high-scoring affair. I think the Frogs will score enough to cover the spread. However, this being the Frogs' first away game, it could be a little nerve wracking. They will come prepared and ready to go to Houston for their first Big 12 matchup.
I think TCU wins this game 56-40 with all the factors mentioned. TCU being statistically better on both ends will give them the edge. Again, this is just my opinion; anything could happen.
