Crossing the Goal Line: Predicting the TCU vs Texas Tech Football Game
Editor's Note: "Crossing the Goal Line" is a weekly column by Nathan Cross in which he predicts the upcoming TCU game. He looks at the point spread, the over/under, and makes a prediction. This is his opinion and should not be taken as betting advice.
Texas Tech is favored to win by 2.5 points with an over/under of 59.5. Let's examine why I am picking TCU to win this game and why they will cover the spread against Texas Tech.
Many people will disagree with my opinion. However, I still believe this team can make a bowl game. If the team can continue to stand behind Josh Hoover and work together, they can win at least two more games to become bowl eligible. It all starts with TCU working hard and trusting in their teammates.
Here are some reasons to back up my opinion.
Why TCU Will Beat The Spread Over Texas Tech
Josh Hoover has a couple of games under his belt
Josh Hoover had an excellent first start against BYU but then struggled in his next start at Kansas State. He is fully comfortable now and will have a bounce-back game against Texas Tech in Lubbock. He can lead this team to a bowl game. Hoover has the talent needed to be an outstanding quarterback. He just needs to put it all together and have the team rallied around him.
Texas Tech has had numerous injuries this year, especially at quarterback
Texas Tech has nine players on their current injury report. Most of those are starters, and two of those are quarterbacks. Tyler Shough started the season at QB for Tech but went down a few weeks ago with a fractured fibula and will most likely be out for the season. Backup quarterback Behren Morton has a grade-three sprain in his right shoulder. Morton sat out in the Week 8 game against BYU, but he is expected to play against the Frogs this week. TCU has seen him before, so I expect them to be ready, but he is a talented QB, so they must stay aware.
TCU has better offensive stats
TCU has averaged more total yards per game than Texas Tech and by quite a lot. TCU will run a quick offense to keep Texas Tech on its heels. TCU needs to be ready for Tech to run the ball a lot. TCU will be a little too much for the Tech defense to handle.
Both teams are fighting to become bowl eligible
Both teams will be fighting hard to get as many wins as they can in this final stretch of the season. Every win counts for both teams. TCU needs two more games, and Tech needs three. Both are within reach, but TCU is closer, and this is one of the must-win games for them as they will still have to play Texas, OU, and Baylor. Because of this, TCU will be more determined and will pull out a win.
