It took a while, but Sonny Dykes has found his transfer quarterback. Chance Nolan, formerly of Saddleback College and more recently Oregon State, announced on Tuesday that he is transferring to TCU.

Nolan was the 29th best junior college player in the country in the 2020 recruiting cycle, according to 247 Sports. He ultimately chose to transfer to Oregon State, but he had other offers from Utah, Temple, and Southern Alabama, among others.

The 6’3” signal-caller played in just four games in 2020 but took over as the full-time starting quarterback for the Beavers in 2021. In 2021, Nolan passed for 2677 yards and threw 19 touchdowns. He eclipsed 300 passing yards in two games and threw for four touchdowns in his team’s win over USC. Oregon State finished the season 7-6.

His 2022 season was cut short due to injury as he played in just five games, and that season’s stats were not all that impressive. He threw seven touchdowns and eight interceptions in five games while accumulating 939 yards.

Nolan entered the portal in December after DJ Uiagalelei transferred from Clemson to Oregon State. He took his time deciding where he would go next, but he ultimately chose the Horned Frogs.

Dykes has expressed his desire to add depth to the quarterback room plenty of times this offseason, as TCU currently has just two scholarship quarterbacks with one career start between them. Even with the addition of Nolan, Chandler Morris is likely still the favorite to start in the season-opening game against Colorado, but some competition never hurts. Nolan brings plenty of experience to Fort Worth and will have an opportunity to steal the job from Morris and freshman Josh Hoover.
