Myrtle Beach Bowl: Ohio vs. Georgia Southern
Saturday, Dec. 16, 11:00 a.m.
Brooks Stadium (Conway, SC)
ESPN
Ohio is without their starting QB, top two rushers, and a couple other starters. Backup QB CJ Harris is out for the season, leaving the start to Parker Navarro, who has 24 career pass attempts. Georgia Southern finished the year losing their final four games, but is much more intact should leading rusher Jalen White suit up (he missed Week 13 with an injury.
- The pick: Georgia Southern 24-21
Cricket Celebration Bowl: Howard vs. Florida A&M
Saturday, Dec. 16, 12:00 p.m.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, GA)
ABC
The Rattlers were truly impressive this year, finishing 11-1. They allowed just 14.3 points per game this year, only losing to FBS USF. Howard finished 6-5 with two losses to FBS teams. Aside from a blowout loss to Harvard, all their losses were within 10 points and three of those within one score.
- The pick: Florida A&M 28-10
R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl: Jacksonville State vs. Louisiana
Saturday, Dec. 16, 2:15 p.m.
Caesars Superdome (New Orleans, LA)
ESPN
Louisiana is also down their top two quarterbacks, but acting starter Chandler Fields has plenty of starting experience. Jacksonville State plays in their first FBS bowl game after finishing the year an impressive 8-4. The Gamecocks relied on a blistering pace and athletic defense this season, both advantages against Louisiana. The Cajuns' defense was a real issue this year.
- The pick: Jacksonville State 34-24
Cure Bowl: Miami (OH) vs. Appalachian State
Saturday, Dec. 16, 3:30 p.m.
FBC Mortgage Stadium (Orlando, FL)
ABC
Miami (OH) joins the third-string QB club as starter Brett Gabbert suffered a season-ending injury and backup Aveon Smith transferred. However, the rest of the team has serious buy-in, all announcing their return for next season. App State won their final five games but dropped the Sun Belt Championship to Troy. On the surface, the Redhawks appear to have a decided advantage with 11 wins vs. App State's 8, but the Mountaineers are the favored team.
- The pick: Appalachian State 19-14
Isleta New Mexico Bowl: New Mexico State vs. Fresno State
Saturday, Dec. 16, 5:45 p.m.
University Stadium (Albuquerque, NM)
ESPN
These are two teams on opposite trajectories. New Mexico State will have Diego Pavia this game, who left the Conference USA Championship with an injury. The Aggies won their final eight regular season games before coming up just short against Liberty in the title game. Fresno lost their last three games, two of which came against some bad teams (New Mexico, San Diego State).
- The pick: New Mexico State 31-14
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NDM1NDI1NjMzMjky/usatsi_22026192.jpg)
LA Bowl hosted by Gronk: UCLA vs. Boise State
Saturday, Dec. 16, 7:30 p.m.
SoFi Stadium (Inglewood, CA)
ABC
UCLA is without their defensive coordinator and a couple other assistants. Star pass rusher Laiatu Latu opted out and the team ended on a pretty sour stretch. The Bruins were blown out by Cal in the finale and dropped a game to Arizona State. Boise State is the latest team to need their third-string QB and their top two receivers won't play. Which team wants this game less?
- The pick: Boise State 27-24
Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl: Texas Tech vs. Cal
Saturday, Dec. 16, 9:15 p.m.
Independence Stadium (Shreveport, LA)
ESPN
Cal won their final three games to sneak into a bowl game at 6-6. Five of their six games came against ranked teams (at the time). Texas Tech won three of their last four games to secure bowl eligibility, but were blown out by 50 against Texas in the season finale. Star back Tahj Brooks will play in this game, although a number of key contributors decided to transfer or sit.
- The pick: Cal 30-17
Famous Toastery Bowl: Western Kentucky vs. Old Dominion
Monday, Dec. 18, 2:30 p.m.
Jerry Richardson Stadium (Charlotte, NC)
ESPN
ODU won their final two games, including a walk-off thriller over Georgia State, to secure bowl eligibility. Defensively, this team is among the better in the Sun Belt. WKU struggled against the better Conference USA teams but beat up on the bad ones. The Monarchs don't fall into "bad" territory.
- The pick: Old Dominion 21-17
Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl: Marshall vs. UTSA
Tuesday, Dec. 19, 9:00 p.m.
Toyota Stadium (Frisco, TX)
ESPN
UTSA is familiar with this bowl game – they last visited in 2021. Their fans travel extremely well and could possibly triple the number of Marshall fans in the stands. This is star QB Frank Harris' last hurrah as a Roadrunner against a Marshall team who failed to score 10 points in their final four losses. Herd starting QB Cam Fancher hit the transfer portal.
- The pick: UTSA 34-10
RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl: Syracuse vs. USF
Thursday, Dec. 21, 8:00 p.m.
FAU Stadium (Boca Raton, FL)
ESPN
Syracuse turns over their entire coaching staff and the new staff won't help prep for this game. On the other side, USF went from 4-29 in the last three years to 6-6 in the first year under Alex Golesh. Motivation in this game is seriously lopsided and USF has a short jog down to Boca Raton. Some may call this one a "shocker."
- The pick: USF 37-30
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NDUzNjc5MjQ0MzAw/usatsi_21929494.jpg)
Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl: UCF vs. Georgia Tech
Friday, Dec. 22, 6:30 p.m.
Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, FL)
ESPN
UCF won three of their final four games and comes into this bowl at full strength. Georgia Tech isn't missing many key pieces, either, making this an intriguing bowl game if not for the participation. UCF coach Gus Malzahn is 3-6 in bowl games while Georgia Tech's Brent Key leads the Jackets to their first bowl since 2018. Motivation edge: Georgia Tech.
- The pick: Georgia Tech 34-28
Birmingham Bowl: Duke vs. Troy
Saturday, Dec. 23, 12:00 p.m.
Protective Stadium (Birmingham, AL)
ABC
Both teams were gutted this offseason. Both start over with new coaching staffs and Duke is without star QB Riley Leonard. There's a possibility that 50% of the starters on both teams either transfer or sit. Troy has the travel edge and still has more to prove by upending a future Power Four team.
- The pick: Troy 31-21
Camellia Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Arkansas State
Saturday, Dec. 23, 12:00 p.m.
Cramton Bowl (Montgomery, AL)
ESPN
Arkansas State returns to the Camellia Bowl for the first time since 2019, which is also the last bowl game the Red Wolves played in. Their season turned around after a rocky start. They have both a 77-31 win and a 73-0 loss on their slate this season. NIU won their final two games to secure bowl eligibility, but looked unsettled in their final game against Kent State.
- The pick: Arkansas State 35-20
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl: James Madison vs. Air Force
Saturday, Dec. 23, 3:30 p.m.
Amon G. Carter Stadium (Fort Worth, TX)
ABC
Although several starters are in the transfer portal, JMU will be at near-full strength as these transferring players will play. It's the Dukes' first FBS bowl game, a position they find themselves in despite their postseason waiver being denied. Across the way, Air Force completely fell apart down the stretch, losing their final four games after an 8-0 start.
- The pick: James Madison 20-6
Famous Idaho Potato Bowl: Georgia State vs. Utah State
Saturday, Dec. 23, 3:30 p.m.
Albertsons Stadium (Boise, ID)
ESPN
Georgia State finished the year with a bowl-team high five consecutive losses. At 6-1, the Panthers looked like they were going to be a force, but they fizzled out against a tough stretch that included JMU, App State, and LSU among others. Utah State gets one more start out of QB Levi Williams before Williams foregoes his remaining eligibility to join the Navy SEALs.
- The pick: Utah State 38-35
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NDcwODU5MTEzNDg0/usatsi_19065424.jpg)
68 Venture Bowl: Eastern Michigan vs. South Alabama
Saturday, Dec. 23, 7:00 p.m.
Hancock Whitney Stadium (Mobile, AL)
ESPN
Eastern Michigan couldn't afford many opt outs, but their starting QB hit the transfer portal. South Alabama is without star receiver Caullin Lacy (transfer) and back La'Damian Webb. However, EMU is one of the lowest-rated teams in a bowl game and South Alabama is projected to win by multiple scores.
- The pick: South Alabama 34-17
SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl: Northwestern vs. Utah
Saturday, Dec. 23, 7:30 p.m.
Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas, NV)
ABC
David Braun did arguably the most impressive job in the country this year, taking a hapless and disjointed Northwestern team to a bowl game. They take on Utah, who struggled with a dozen season-ending injuries. Bryson Barnes will play in this game and then transfer. QBs Cam Rising, Brandon Rose, and Nate Johnson all won't be available alongside several other key contributors. But if there's one thing Kyle Whittingham loves to do, it's win games where the Utes are counted out.
- The pick: Utah 14-10
EasyPost Hawaii Bowl: San Jose State vs. Coastal Carolina
Saturday, Dec. 23, 10:30 p.m.
Ching Complex (Honolulu, HI)
ESPN
San Jose State is making its second trip to Honolulu this season; earlier in the year, the Spartans notched a 35-0 win over Hawaii. Coastal Carolina makes the farthest trek of any bowl team and goes into this game down its star QB Grayson McCall. SJSU has almost full buy-in while Coastal is dealing with several absences.
- The pick: San Jose State 31-21
Quick Lane Bowl: Minnesota vs. Bowling Green
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2:00 p.m.
Ford Field (Detroit, MI)
ESPN
Bowling Green last played Minnesota in 2021 and stunned the Gophers 14-10. With that on their mind, Minnesota comes into this game down a few key contributors including starting QB Athan Kaliakmanis and star RB Darius Taylor. The majority of BG's roster returns next season, with the exception of top DB Jalen Huskey. Just 80 miles from Detroit, BG also has the travel edge.
- The pick: Bowling Green 23-17
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl: Texas State vs. Rice
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 5:30 p.m.
Gerald J. Ford Stadium (Dallas, TX)
ESPN
Texas State plays in their first-ever bowl game as an FBS member. Rice is down starting QB JT Daniels, who was forced to medically retire from football. Otherwise, these teams are more or less at full strength. GJ Kinne turned the Bobcats into a forced to be reckoned with, even with inconsistent defensive play.
- The pick: Texas State 28-24
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NDg3MjMzNjc2MzAw/usatsi_21872579.jpg)
Guaranteed Rate Bowl: Kansas vs. UNLV
Tuesday, Dec. 26, 9:00 p.m.
Chase Field (Phoenix, AZ)
ESPN
If you're a fan of offensive football, this game is for you. Kansas goes into the game with their team majorly intact, as does UNLV. However, the Jayhawks are without offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who left for Penn State. The Rebels are multi-score underdogs in this game, but their potent offense makes them at the very least interesting. Two well-coached teams meeting in Phoenix.
- The pick: Kansas 42-30
Military Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. Tulane
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2:00 p.m.
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (Annapolis, MD)
ESPN
Tulane, despite winning 11 games this year, is an underdog and the team was gutted. The coaching staff departed and five key contributors won't play. Star QB Michael Pratt hasn't announced a decision at time of writing, but he likely won't play (be it opting out for the NFL or transferring). Virginia Tech improved massively this season and has the full buy-in from its roster.
- The pick: Virginia Tech 28-13
Duke's Mayo Bowl: North Carolina vs. West Virginia
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 5:30 p.m.
Bank of America Stadium (Charlotte, NC)
ESPN
Drake Maye opted out of this game, leaving North Carolina for the NFL. Four other key players are also out for the NFL and four more starters won't play with injury. The lone contributor suiting up for the Tar Heels is Omarian Hampton, the ACC's leading rusher. WVU returns the bulk of their team, but misses All-American Zach Frazier due to injury (and then the NFL). Neal Brown re-gained the support from WVU this season.
- The pick: West Virginia 34-21
DIRECTV Holiday Bowl: Louisville vs. USC
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 8:00 p.m.
Petco Park (San Diego, CA)
FOX
Louisville has the buy-in from most of their roster, including NFL-bound safety Cam'Ron Kelly. Across the way, USC's biggest contributors, including 2022 Heisman winner Caleb Williams, opted out. The Trojans quit on the season long ago and this game down the road is no exception.
- The pick: Louisville 42, USC 14
![Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy runs on to the field before the college football game between the Oklahoma State University Cowboys and the Brigham Young Cougars at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, Nov., 25, 2023.](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTA0NDEzNTQ1NTQw/usatsi_21975535.jpg)
TaxAct Texas Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M
Wednesday, Dec. 27, 9:00 p.m.
NRG Stadium (Houston, TX)
ESPN
No team has more transfers and opt outs than Texas A&M. They're down to their third QB, down their top three pass catchers, and multiple starting linemen. There's a new coaching staff inbound, as well. Oklahoma State is a well-coached team with nearly a fully intact roster. The Pokes look to notch another one for Mike Gundy.
- The pick: Oklahoma State 27-13
Wasabi Fenway Bowl: Boston College vs. SMU
Thursday, Dec. 28, 11:00 a.m.
Fenway Park (Boston, MA)
ESPN
Boston College plays just 12 miles down the road from campus. Their opponent is soon to be a familiar face, ACC-bound SMU; the two actually play next season during the conference slate. SMU is without starting QB Preston Stone, but the Mustangs won the AAC title without him. However, they were left out of the New Year's Six Bowl game and relegated to this consolation matchup.
- The pick: Boston College 17-13
Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl: Miami (FL) vs. Rutgers
Thursday, Dec. 28, 2:15 p.m.
Yankee Stadium (Bronx, NY)
ESPN
Is there a team situationally that wants to be at their bowl game less than Miami? The Canes leave sunny South Florida for chilly New York City to play a local team down several starters. Miami starts their third-string QB and, historically, stink in bowl games – the Canes have lost 10 of their last 11! Rutgers plays in their first earned bowl game since 2014 (they played in the 2021 Gator Bowl but only after a bowl-eligible team had to withdraw).
- The pick: Rutgers 30-7
Pop-Tarts Bowl: NC State vs. Kansas State
Thursday, Dec. 28, 5:45 p.m.
Camping World Stadium (Orlando, FL)
ESPN
Kansas State lost its offensive coordinator, starting QB, and potentially seven other starters. However, young and talented QB Avery Johnson steps in after already leading K-State to a victory earlier this year. NC State is also without a few contributors, but those players were lost earlier in the season, namely QB MJ Morris. In terms of continuity, NC State has a slight edge.
- The pick: NC State 23-21
Valero Alamo Bowl: Oklahoma vs. Arizona
Thursday, Dec. 28, 9:15 p.m.
Alamodome (San Antonio, TX)
ESPN
Few bowl games have such a lopsided motivation factor than this. Arizona extended coach Jedd Fisch after a 9-3 season in which the Wildcats had almost no expectations. QB Noah Fifita exploded onto the scene as one of the Pac-12's top passers. Oklahoma loses a ton of key players, namely star QB Dillon Gabriel. OU finds themselves just outside the New Year's Six games and they've had issues with bowl continuity before.
- The pick: Arizona 37-20
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTIyMzk4NzIxMDM2/usatsi_21538979.jpg)
TaxSlayer Gator Bowl: Kentucky vs. Clemson
Friday, Dec. 29, 12:00 p.m.
TIAA Bank Stadium (Jacksonville, FL)
ESPN
Clemson will be without most of their defensive backfield, many of which powered the defense to wins. Key defender Barrett Carter will return to Clemson and play in this game, but he's one of the lone stars to suit up defensively. Kentucky will have star RB Ray Davis and starting CB Andru Phillips, both of whom are NFL bound. Mark Stoops also stays in place.
- The pick: Kentucky 28-21
Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl: Notre Dame vs. Oregon State
Friday, Dec. 29, 2:00 p.m.
Sun Bowl Stadium (El Paso, TX)
CBS
No bowl game has more opt outs and changes than this one. Both teams are former shells of their regular-season selves. So, who has more motivation or a deeper roster? Chances are, Oregon State is more invested in winning this game against a premier brand than Notre Dame is to play in a non-NY6 bowl.
- The pick: Oregon State 17-16
AutoZone Liberty Bowl: Iowa State vs. Memphis
Friday, Dec. 29, 3:30 p.m.
Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium (Memphis, TN)
ESPN
This is a rematch of the 2017 Liberty Bowl, a game Iowa State won in controversial fashion. Memphis plays in their own stadium – a seeming advantage, but in reality may hurt their team motivation to essentially stay at home. The Tigers are without two starting offensive linemen while Iowa State brings mostly everyone to this game.
- The pick: Iowa State 34-28
Goodyear Cotton Bowl: Ohio State vs. Missouri
Friday, Dec. 29, 8:00 p.m.
AT&T Stadium (Arlington, TX)
ESPN
Initially it was thought Ohio State would be without a dozen starters. While QB Kyle McCord leaves in the portal, a handful of NFL-ready players announced they would play in the Cotton Bowl. However, there's still several that may not, namely Marvin Harrison Jr. Mizzou plays in their first NY6 Bowl game since 2013. They return most of their best players next season and have a decided motivation edge, although the Buckeyes haven't lost a non-CFP bowl since 2011.
- The pick: Missouri 31-28
Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl: Penn State vs. Ole Miss
Saturday, Dec. 30, 12:00 p.m.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta, GA)
ESPN
Both teams come into this game at nearly full-strength. The biggest absence is Penn State pass rusher Chop Robinson, who leaves for the NFL. But both teams return the bulk of their talent next season. The Nittany Lions have a significantly better defense and the Rebels have a big advantage offensively. In bowl games, defense tends to travel better than offense.
- The pick: Penn State 24-13
TransPerfect Music City Bowl: Auburn vs. Maryland
Saturday, Dec. 30, 2:00 p.m.
Nissan Stadium (Nashville, TN)
ABC
Auburn finished the season 1-6 against bowl eligible teams; Maryland went 1-4. Both coaches have respectable bowl records. Maryland has the better QB, Taulia Tagovailoa, who will play in this game. Auburn's perception is slightly boosted thanks to a close call against Alabama, but that team was playing above season average.
- The pick: Maryland 30-27
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTM5NTc4NzIxMjky/usatsi_22019990.jpg)
Capital One Orange Bowl: Florida State vs. Georgia
Saturday, Dec. 30, 4:00 p.m.
Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Gardens, FL)
ESPN
Two teams angry they're on the outside of the CFP field, one more angry than the other. However, rather than be a get-up for Florida State, being left out feels more like a defeating move. Georgia, on the other hand, will use this as a get-up and an opportunity to boost morale. Unfortunately, this game likely goes down as "validation" of leaving the 'Noles out and could get ugly.
Note: Watch FSU's roster carefully for opt outs from players like Jared Verse.
- The pick: Georgia 45-10
Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl: Toledo vs. Wyoming
Saturday, Dec. 30, 4:30 p.m.
Arizona Stadium (Tucson, AZ)
The CW
Toledo lost star QB Dequan Finn to the transfer portal, a major blow to the offense. Head coach Jason Candle has a terrible postseason track record, holding a 2-4 bowl record and barely edging out half a Liberty team last year. Wyoming is playing for longtime and revered head coach Craig Bohl, who will retire after this game.
- The pick: Wyoming 23-7
ReliaQuest Bowl: LSU vs. Wisconsin
Monday, Jan. 1, 12:00 p.m.
Raymond James Stadium (Tampa, FL)
ESPN2
Heisman winner Jayden Daniels likely opts out of this game, along with a few other star players like Malik Nabers. Although the announcement hasn't been made at time of writing, I'm projecting he sits. Either way, LSU is the more intact and talented team against a shorthanded Wisconsin team focused on next year.
- The pick: LSU 32-13
Cheez-It Citrus Bowl: Iowa vs. Tennessee
Monday, Jan. 1, 1:00 p.m.
Camping World Stadium (Orlando, FL)
ABC
Despite being down its best players, Iowa sets up a game they want to play. Low scoring is expected with the nation's best defense against Tennessee, who struggled at times offensively. The Vols could be down multiple starters in this game, namely both top receivers and three offensive linemen.
- The pick: Iowa 13-0
Vrbo Fiesta Bowl: Oregon vs. Liberty
Monday, Jan. 1, 1:00 p.m.
State Farm Stadium (Glendale, AZ)
ESPN
Heisman finalist Bo Nix announced he will play in this game before leaving for the NFL. Liberty went 13-0 against the nation's easiest schedule (per ESPN FPI) and takes a major step up in competition. Unfortunately for Jamey Chadwell & Co., Oregon has the buy-in from their best players. While they can be fun offensively, there's too much talent on the other sideline for this game to be all that competitive.
- The pick: Oregon 56-20
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTU1NDE2MjgyMTgw/usatsi_22021405.jpg)
Rose Bowl: No. 1 Michigan vs. No. 4 Alabama
Monday, Jan. 1, 5:00 p.m.
Rose Bowl Stadium (Pasadena, CA)
ESPN
Is there a right team to bet against here? Michigan is riding the villain card well, but have to go against a Nick Saban-led team. Both defenses are elite, although the offensive edge goes to Michigan. Alabama's all-or-nothing offense is a fun watch, but Michigan's defense should be prepared for that.
- The pick: Michigan 24-17
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTY3MjI3NDQyMjQ0/usatsi_22010384.jpg)
Allstate Sugar Bowl: No. 2 Washington vs. No. 3 Texas
Monday, Jan. 1, 8:45 p.m.
Caesars Superdome (New Orleans, LA)
ESPN
Washington continued to defy odds all season long, akin to 2022 TCU. Does their luck continue into this game against a very talented Texas team? Offensively, these teams are about equal. Washington has the QB edge, but Texas has a large defensive edge, particularly up front. This has the potential to be a blowout, an instant classic, or anything in between.
- The pick: Texas 34-31
![](https://www.si.com/.image/t_share/MjAyODg0NTgzNjAyMDA1MDA0/usatsi_22025077.jpg)
College Football Playoff National Championship
Monday, Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m.
NRG Stadium (Houston, TX)
ESPN
I project Michigan and Texas to meet in this year's National Championship. It's a great battle between two of the most talented teams in the nation, with the potential setup of a seriously controversial end. Michigan is still under investigation for sign-stealing from the NCAA. For the Wolverines to win the National Championship with the potential for it to be sanctioned or asterisked would be a fitting ending, if not only just a narrative-driven one.
- The pick: Michigan 31-20
