The Frogs suffered a devastating loss to Iowa State on Saturday but will have a chance to bounce back at Amon G. Carter Stadium when they play host to the BYU Cougars.

Saturday will mark the start of a new reign in Fort Worth when quarterback Josh Hoover makes his first collegiate start after Chandler Morris suffered a right MCL sprain against the Cyclones.

Establish the Running Game

With the introduction of Hoover, the Frogs passing game may not be its most potent. Keeping this in mind, it is imperative the Frogs establish the running game as soon as possible. Against Iowa State, TCU rushed the ball for 185 yards, with Emani Bailey leading the charge with 21 carries for 152 yards.

Against an established BYU defense, allowing only 130 yards per game, Saturday will be a test for this Horned Frog offense. If TCU can establish the ground game early, it will allow the offense to open up the passing game and get Hoover into a rhythm.

Stretch the Field

One aspect of the game that Hoover wants to take advantage of is the deep ball. Something we haven’t seen from Morris this season is that Hoover is looking to stretch the field and utilize the speed of his wide receivers.

The Frogs are getting back wide receiver Jaylon Robinson, who missed the last two games due to injury. Robinson provides a deep threat down the field that can further open space over the middle for crossers.

If the Frogs can stretch the field, Hoover will have various targets available in the deep or short game.

Win the Turnover Battle

Coming off a tragic performance in Ames, Iowa, against the Cyclones, the Frogs will have to take care of the football. TCU has committed ten turnovers this season–eight interceptions and two fumbles. It is important to note the team has fumbled six times, but lost possession twice.

If TCU wants to pick up a much-needed victory, ball security is crucial. Furthermore, this ties into the need to finish drives. Too often, TCU gets into the red zone and leaves points on the field. The Frogs must take advantage of field goal opportunities as they are 7 for 13  this season.
