SMU received the first half kickoff and was able to put up a field goal after a long opening drive that lasted 6:17. TCU's first possession saw the Frogs pick up two first-downs but resulted in a punt that landed inside the five.

The offensive line for the Frogs struggled in the early going and Emani Bailey didn't have much room to run. TCU converted a critical 4th and 1 in the red zone. A few plays later, Chandler Morris found tight end Jared Wiley for a nine-yard score to put the Frogs up 7-3.

On the ensuing drive, the Mustangs got some big chunks on the ground, advancing into TCU territory. However, on 4th and 2 at the TCU 27, Jamoi Hodge came up with a crucial tackle behind the line of scrimmage forcing a turnover on downs.

Following the defensive stop, with 10 minutes to go in the first half, Morris found a wide open J.P. Richardson for 38 yards. After a critical third down conversions, Morris connected with Wiley for the second time to put the Frogs up 14-3.

SMU once again pushed the ball into Horned Frog territory marching down the field with the running game and was able to capitalize with a one-yard score from Camar Wheaton to cut the deficit to four.
