TCU Volleyball Snaps Four Game Losing Streak Behind Career Night from Jalyn Gibson
TCU seemed to be going through some growing pains these last two weeks with some matchups against stiff competition including No. 14 Kansas and No. 6 Texas. This week, they welcomed UCF for the first volleyball matchup between the two schools ever. A tough night on Thursday saw the Frogs drop to the Golden Knights in four sets.
Things went much better on Friday with a win in four sets (25-12, 25-22, 27-29 and 25-18). TCU landed four aces in the first set including one from Lily Nicholson to make it 13-7 TCU. With the Frogs up 21-12, they closed out the set with four consecutive kills from Jalyn Gibson, Audrey Nalls, and Taylor Raiola.
TCU capitalized on several attack errors from the Golden Knights in set two however they kept it close with the score at 23-22. Kills from Brianna Green and Nalls closed it out.
Things were looking good in the fourth set with TCU breaking off a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to make it 14-7. UCF got within striking distance but the Horned Frogs' always had a response and it's only fitting that Jalyn Gibson got the match-clinching kill.
Gibson had a career night recording 23 kills hitting .405. She also tied her career high with three service aces. Lily Nicholson had a great game recording 45 assists and a career-high two service aces. TCU recorded 10 service aces which is tied for second most this season.
It's certainly been a breakout season for the sophomore Gibson who continues to get better and better in her collegiate career. The Frogs go to 13-10 overall and back to .500 at 6-6 in Big 12 play. TCU is currently in seventh place in this stacked conference with Texas leading the way.
The Horned Frogs will be back home with a matchup against Iowa State this Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
