TCU Volleyball Sweeps Texas Tech and Remains Undefeated at Home
TCU opened up Big 12 play with a split between Kansas State and had their first home Big 12 matches of the season on Thursday and Friday. They would defeat Texas Tech 3-0 in the first match and 3-2 in the second.
On Thursday, the Frogs were moving quickly in set one, where they led the whole way. The defense proved pivotal yet again as they posted five blocks. TCU had a commanding lead in the second set leading 20-8 thanks to Jalyn Gibson, who had five kills. The third set was closer as it was knotted up at 22, but TCU ended it on a 3-0 run finished off by a kill by Melanie Parra. Parra had 17 kills.
Things were slightly more contested on Friday, where Texas Tech almost pulled off a reverse sweep, but the Frogs prevailed, winning 3-2 (25-14, 25-20, 19-25, 23-25, and 15-9). Despite their struggles in the third and fourth set, TCU pulled through. It also required a comeback in set two, where they trailed 16-12. An ace by Cecily Bramschreiber gave TCU the lead.
Five Horned Frogs recorded a double-double. Parra finished with 34 kills and currently leads the Big 12 in kills per set (4.86) and points per set (5.77). It was also a historical night for Audrey Nalls who became the 13th player in program history to reach 1,000 kills in her career.
Players with a double-double | Stats |
---|---|
Melanie Parra | 34 kills and 14 digs |
Cecily Bramschreiber | 23 digs and 14 assists |
Lily Nicholson | 22 assists and 11 digs |
Audrey Nalls | 12 kills and 14 digs |
Jalyn Gibson | 13 kills and 13 digs |
This Big 12 conference is stacked; there is no doubt about it. There are five teams in the top 25 alone. Every conference win is critical, and for TCU starting 3-1 is exactly what coach Jason Williams had in mind. They will have two more home matches against Cincinnati on Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
