Meet the 8 incoming freshmen to Horned Frog Soccer

TCU Women’s Soccer welcomed a new class of freshmen for the 2023 season. Get to know them ahead of the season which kicks off on August 17 at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium against SMU.

Sasha Carbone: Forward

Coming from the Scenic City, Sasha Carbone looks to make a splash in her first season as a Horned Frog. Carbone begins her collegiate career with numerous achievements at the high school level, playing five years at Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga.

A four-year starter for the Bruisers, Carbone was selected to the All-State Team in her junior and senior years while leading the team to two state championships. The forward from Chattanooga also found success playing for her club team FC Alliance in Knoxville. While at FC Alliance, Carbone spurred the team to playoff appearances in 2021 and 2023.

Gabbi Ceballos: Midfielder

Texas native Gabbi Ceballos made the trip north from San Antonio to Fort Worth and is set to begin her collegiate career as a Horned Frog. Ceballos played at John Paul Stevens High School and competed at the club level with Classics Elite Soccer Academy. From 2017 to 2022, the midfielder attended the Youth National Team Regional ID Center and spent three years with the U17 Women’s National Team camp.

According to IMG Academy rankings, Ceballos is ranked 29th in the nation for her age group, 12th as a midfielder and 4th in the state of Texas. She has further experience in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) and was named the Red River Conference Best XI in 2022.

Katrina Chong: Midfielder

Katrina Chong comes into TCU with an abundance of experience, ranging from high school to club level. A two-time captain at Beverly Hills High School, Chong was named to the All-Ocean League Team on three occasions, while earning two Ocean League MVP awards.

In her junior year, Chong set a Beverly Hills High School record when she netted 28 goals in a single season. Over her high school career Chong tallied 59 career goals. In respect to her club accomplishments, she was named 2019-20 Rookie of the Year at Tudela FC. While at Tudela, she led the team to the 2021 CalSouth U16 National Cup Championship and won the SoCal U17 State Cup in 2022.

Chong joins the Horned Frogs alongside her club teammate Marli Galdamez.

Brooke Conover: Forward

Despite playing high school soccer in southern California, Brooke Conover began her career in her hometown of Auckland, New Zealand. An eight-year member of the Auckland Football Federation from 2012 to 2019, Conover led her team to two second-place finishes and a Gold Coast Champions Cup in 2017.

When Conover relocated to California she played with Santa Margarita Catholic High School, where she was a part of the squad that won the California State Championship, ranking 1st in the state and 2nd in the country.

Bella Diorio: Defender

Bella Diorio comes to TCU with an impressive résumé. Playing at Lockport Township High School in Illinois, Diorio was an All-American, breaking the single-season goal record with 41 goals. Coming out of high school, Diorio was ranked 59th in the nation by Prep Soccer.

While proving her abilities in high school, Diorio further competed at an elite club level with Eclipse Select where she contributed to four Illinois State Cup Championships. During that time, she attended numerous US Youth National Team regional training camps while playing in the International Champions Cup Futures tournament at IMG with the Midwest Team.

Marli Galdamez: Midfielder

Coming to TCU alongside her club teammate Katrina Chong, Marli Galdamez will look to pick up right where she left off in her high school and club career. Galdamez miraculously led both her high school and club teams, Sherman Oaks and Tudela FC, respectively, in goals scored.

During her time at Sherman Oaks in southern California, Galdamez was awarded best attacker of the year. On a club basis, she also led Tudela to an undefeated season.

Elise Krone: Goalkeeper

TCU added another pair of hands with the arrival goalkeeper Elise Krone. She played her high school career at New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL while performing at an elite level in respect to club soccer as well. In her time as a goalkeeper for Chicago FC United Krone led the team to the 2021 Pepsi Showcase Championship and the 2022 GA Champions League.

Between her high school and club career, she was a five-time captain and a two-time No. 1 female goalkeeper at Camp Shutout, a high-profile goalkeeping camp held in Stevens Point, WI.

Landen Matthews: Forward

A premier forward in her high school career at northern California, Landen Matthews will look to hit the ground running with the Horned Frogs. Playing at St. Francis High School, Matthews led the Lancers to the team’s first-ever Northern California D1 State Championship. On a club level, Matthews played with California Thorn DA, ranked No. 2 in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.

Matthews herself is a top 20 goal scorer in the nation and has seven years of experience playing in the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL). Her achievements saw her invited to play for SF Glens, a USL Women’s team made up of the top collegiate and USWNT players in the Bay Area.

Head coach Eric Bell and TCU Women's Soccer will kick off their 2023 season against SMU at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium on August 17.
