Is it possible for the Volunteer baseball team to get any more news than they already have since the season ended a little over a week ago?

However, it happened. Tennessee landed former N.C. State catcher Cannon Peebles. It was a huge addition to the Volunteer baseball team. He is the second commitment for the Vols following A.J. Causey transferring to Knoxville several days ago. Peebles was an All-ACC freshman team member who was a great presence at the plate. He finished the season with a .352 average, 12 home runs, and 50 RBI in 39 games. He also had a .697 slugging percentage with a .456 on-base percentage. A cool feature of Peebles's game is his ability to switch hit. This makes him a potent threat at the plate and a game-changer to anyone who could pick him up.

The Volunteers did have something to address at the catcher position. Their main starter, Cal Stark, batted a measly .180 and had a small .365 on-base percentage. He also had a strikeout rate of 45%, with a lower hit rate of 18%. The other option at catcher this past season was Charlie Taylor. He was a little more efficient than Stark but still didn't impress much with a .232 batting average and an on-base percentage of .346, which is lower than Stark.

Catcher, in general, has been a difficult position for Tennessee to fill for a while. They tried Jared Dickey at that spot in preseason practices before he was moved to the outfield. And before Stark and Taylor, Evan Russell played the position in 2022. But he. normally played left field. The Tennessee team was already having a lot of returners. This was no secret to anyone around college baseball. But adding a great catcher when the Vols needed it helps prime this team for a deep run next season.
