Tennessee Baseball Cementing Vols 2023 Success
After defeating Clemson this past weekend, the Tennessee baseball team advanced to the Super Regionals to take on Southern Miss. This team has flown under the radar, not being included in the Top 25 for most of the year. This group is also trying to bounce back from a year in which they posted a historic regular season only to get bounced by Notre Dame before the College World Series.
Before a single inning of playoff baseball was played by the Vols, they achieved something that only a few other programs around the country did. The Tennessee Volunteers became one of twelve schools to reach the postseason in all three major sports. Other schools included fellow SEC members Kentucky, Alabama, and Arkansas, as well as schools like Texas, Duke, and TCU. Funnily enough, the Vols have gotten the best of the Clemson Tigers in multiple sports as well. In football, it was the Vols over the Tigers in the Orange Bowl, which saw the coronation of Joe Milton III as the next great Volunteer signal caller.
In baseball, the Vols once again knocked off Clemson, defeating them in a whopping 14-inning game last weekend to send them home for the offseason. The Vols have had continued success in the year 2023 in each sport, including against the Tigers. While this is a great start, the Vols are hungry for titles. With Milton and company in full offseason grind mode, this is possibly the most hopeful Tennessee has been on the football championship front since a guy named Manning was under center. The baseball team could take one home this season but will have to knock off tough times like LSU, and the upcoming nationally-ranked Southern Miss. Regarding hoops, Rick Barnes and his crew continue to make recruiting moves to advance past this year's Sweet 16 finish. Overall, it is a great time to be a Vols Country member, and Knoxville athletics are thriving.
