Tennessee Lands Wofford Transfer Ryan Galanie
On Sunday, the Tennessee Volunteers landed former Wofford College player Ryan Galanie from the transfer portal. Galanie is a utility position player used in both the infield and outfield. However, he played the majority of the season at first base. He had a phenomenal 2022-23 season earning the SOCON Player of the Year title.
This play from Galanie was contagious for this Wofford team. They finished 3rd in the SOCON with a record of 40-19 overall and 12-9 in conference play. One of those 19 losses came against Tennessee in Knoxville. The Volunteers won that game 13-3, winning in seven innings. In the SOCON tournament in Greenville, S.C., the Terriers went 3-2 with the final two losses to Samford ending their season. This season, the former Terrier finished with a batting average of .383, 17 home runs, and 66 RBIs. He also walked 40 times and had 73 runs this past season.
Galanie was a player that could explode at any time as he had eight games with 3+ RBI and had a multiple home run performance on February 26th against Kent State. A key factor to this transfer acquisition is that Galanie is a right-handed batter. The Tennessee roster this past season was mostly lefties. Six batters in the starting lineup batted left-handed. The three right-handed batters were Christian Moore, Hunter Ensley, and Griffin Merritt.
Galanie's handiness will be a huge factor in more variety within a potent Tennessee lineup. The former Wofford first baseman was a senior last season, and something important to note is that he is also eligible for the professionals. This means he can choose that route via any free-agent deals he is offered in the future. Galanie is a big bat for Tennessee to gain heading into next season. Much like the other transfers before, it helps keep the Volunteers in the realm of title contention.
