Alabama Hires New Offensive Coordinator
Alabama has officially found its new offensive coordinator. After losing out on Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb, they redirected and landed on Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.
ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed the move, and Nick Saban has filled one of two assistant openings. Alabama is also searching for a defensive coordinator and reportedly had an interest in former Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt.
Rees has commandeered the Fighting Irish offense since 2020. He formerly was an offensive assistant with the then-San Diego Chargers and was a graduate assistant at Northwestern.
He played for Notre Dame during his collegiate career. Rees was a three-year starter, totaling 61 touchdowns and 37 interceptions before briefly moving on to the NFL.
Alabama has an offensive dilemma on its hands this offseason. They are restocking several positions, including quarterback. It seems there will be an open competition between Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe, with no clear leader evident.
It's the first time in several years that the Crimson Tide is not the unanimous top dog. The Georgia Bulldogs have taken that belt after winning consecutive national championships, losing one game in that two-year stretch.
