Big 12 Commissioner: OU, Texas Negotiations Ongoing

Oklahoma and Texas are currently negotiating with the Big 12, and commissioner Brett Yormark indicated a resolution may take time.

Oklahoma, Texas, and the Big 12 are playing a song and dance that has gone on over the past eighteen months. Reports surfaced that the Red River rivals planned to leave for the SEC in 2024, but that plan seems to have been blocked.

A report surfaced Friday that negotiations have hit a snag, and television money seems to be the factor. Contrary to popular belief, it seemed like the pair would be in the Big 12 through the 2024 season.

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark was at the Texas vs. Kansas State basketball game on Saturday afternoon. He caught up with the Austin American-Statesman's Kirk Bohls, telling Bohls that the three parties are still negotiating.

Conference realignment has been a large topic of discussion over the past year. UCLA and USC are moving from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten, and several G5 powerhouses are moving to the Big 12.

Everything remains fluid, but Oklahoma and Texas are the initial examples of realignment in today's college football. They first announced their move, and many other schools may use their process as a framework in future negotiations between programs and conferences.
