Bru McCoy Has Been Waiting For This Opportunity

Tennessee Volunteers wide receiver Bru McCoy has had a storybook journey so far, but the past few years have been leading up to this moment.
In this story:

Bru McCoy is an interesting case. In 2019, McCoy was a consensous five-star recruit out of Mater Dei in California. His recruitment was full of twists. After committing and signing to USC, McCoy entered the transfer portal after less than a month in Southern Cal.

McCoy then transferred to the University of Texas. However, McCoy barely made it through spring practice with the Longhorns; he was back in California with the Trojans in June. After redshirting, McCoy played a year at SoCal and then ran into off-field issues. Following these events, McCoy transferred to the University of Tennessee in May 2022.

After stepping foot in Knoxville, McCoy enjoyed a level of success he had not seen yet at the college level from a individual and team standpoint. He caught 52 catches for 667 yards, with four touchdowns to boot for a Tennessee squad that won 11 games and an Orange Bowl.

Many Volunteers may remember arguably McCoy's biggest moment with the program. With two seconds left against the No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide, Bru hauled in a 27 yard pass over the middle to set up a game-winning field goal. Plays like this are reason to believe McCoy, in his third year of action, can make another big stride.

With Jalin Hyatt declaring for the NFL Draft, McCoy climbs up the ranks, and is projected to be the starting X-receiver for the Vols.

No one saw Jalin Hyatt taking the Biletnikoff last season. With Josh Heupel's new age offense, he did just that. Perhaps a similar result can come for Bru McCoy, who has finally found a home.
