Former VFL Cam Sutton Signs With Lions

Former Tennessee Volunteers corner Cameron Sutton has inked a new contract with the Detroit Lions after testing the free agent market.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport, Pittsburgh Steelers corner and former Tennessee Volunteer Cameron Sutton has inked a new deal with the Detroit Lions. Sutton spent six seasons with the Steelers before testing the open market this offseason.

The deal runs three seasons and is valued at $33 million, with $22.5 guaranteed. Sutton joins the 9-8 Lions, who came a week away from making the postseason and knocked the rival Green Bay Packers out of the playoffs in week 18. Head coach Dan Campbell is developing a strong reputation in league circles, and Sutton helps bolster his defense.

Sutton logged 168 tackles in 84 games for the Steelers. He recorded eight interceptions, with a career-high three coming this past season. Sutton anchored the backend of one of the league's strongest secondaries but will now move on from the franchise that selected him in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

He played four seasons with the Vols, getting significant snaps in each. Sutton played in 44 games with Tennessee, recording seven interceptions and four touchdowns in his time on Rocky Top. He's had a lucrative career in the NFL; he signed. 2-year, $9 million extension with the Steelers in 2021, but is now fully maximizing his value on the open market.
