Charge against Tennessee cornerback Bryce Thompson dismissed
Bryce Thompson has found himself in quite the predicament in the past four weeks, but the Tennessee cornerback was greeted with welcoming news when he entered misdemeanor court on Monday, Sept. 23.
A judge in Knox County criminal court dismissed a charge of domestic assault when a woman who identified herself as Thompson's girlfriend testified that she never felt threatened during the two's heated verbal confrontation in Stokely Hall on Aug. 24.
Thompson was subsequently arrested following the incident after witnesses claimed he made threats toward her and allegedly said he would "shoot up the school."
According to the initial arrest warrant, the Irmo, South Carolina native threatened to "slap the (expletive) out of" her. When University of Tennessee police officers arrived, they also found a damaged gate that had been removed from its hinges.
"There was no point during the argument that I was scared or felt like he was going to hurt me," the woman testified in court. "And he never touched me. It was just a little bit louder."
Thompson was a freshman All-American a year ago and made his season debut on Saturday against Florida, notching seven tackles.
He was reinstated to the team on Sept. 11 and returned to practice that week, but Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt decided to hold him out of UT's matchup with Chattanooga that weekend.
