Darnell Wright Meets With Host Of Teams At Combine

Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright met with several prospective franchises during the predraft process after dominating the athletic testing portion of the NFL Combine.
In this story:

NFL evaluators and Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright have become quite acquainted over the past few years. Wright was a consensus five-star prospect coming out of high school and a multi-year college starter.

Additionally, Wright performed excellently at the Reese's Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. He had a 9.47 RAS, one of the highest marks of any tackle. He came in a bit shorter than most offensive tackles but excelled in explosion drills.

According to The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler, Wright met with twelve NFL franchises during the NFL Combine. Eight of those squads were AFC teams, including the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City guard Trey Smith was another five-star Tennessee offensive lineman that flourished in the NFL.

Wright had an excellent season at right tackle for the Volunteers. Quarterback Hendon Hooker had one of the top seasons in college football, and a big reason for that was that his right side was clean.

Some consistency things can be ironed out in Wright's game, but he has no glaring limitations that should keep him out of the first round. UGA offensive tackle Broderick Jones seems the favorite to be the first tackle off the board, but Wright's case is mounting.

Will Anderson should be a familiar name for college football fans. The Alabama edge rusher wreaked havoc on the SEC for two consecutive seasons, tallying 204 tackles and 34.5 sacks during his three seasons in Tuscaloosa.

However, Wright gave him problems. He had one of the best games of his career against Alabama and Anderson this season. He played consistently, using power, athleticism, and technique to execute a difficult assignment.
