Georgia Survives Auburn, SEC East Race Heating Up

The Georgia Bulldogs bested the Auburn Tigers down the stretch on Saturday, but the SEC East may be opening for other suitors.

Outside of a handful of fans in Auburn, Alabama, many around college football thought the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs would handle the hometown Tigers. Though the Bulldogs lost a lot of NFL talent this offseason, they still felt like the better squad entering play. But that's why games aren't played on paper.

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze developed a strong game plan to make the football game as ugly as possible. The Tigers ran the football at a high clip and played opportunistic defense. It was a complete team effort to cause havoc and make Georgia uncomfortable, which they quickly did. It was a four-quarter football fight that swung back and forth and ultimately was determined down the stretch.

With the score evened at twenty after an Auburn field goal, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck came through with his best game sequence. He made a big throw on 3rd and 12 to tight end Brock Bowers to keep the drive alive, and a few plays later found Bowers for a catch-and-run touchdown.
