Vols In The First: Hendon Hooker To Washington

The NFL Draft is hours away, and we are projecting Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hendon Hooker to be selected by the Washington Commanders at No. 16 overall.

As the NFL Draft approaches, there has been speculation that the Washington Commanders could select Hendon Hooker in the first round. Hooker, the talented quarterback from Tennesseee, has shown flashes of brilliance during his college career, and many experts believe that he has the potential to be a star at the next level.

If Hooker were to be drafted by the Washington Commanders, he would likely find himself in a competition for the starting job with Sam Howell, the team's current quarterback. Howell, who has been the starter for the Commanders for the past two seasons, has had some ups and downs, but he has shown enough promise to keep the job for now.

However, if the Commanders were to draft Hooker, it would signal that they are looking to build for the future. While Howell has shown potential, there are still some question marks surrounding his ability to be a long-term starter in the NFL. Hooker, on the other hand, has a skill set that is well-suited for the modern game, and he could be a perfect fit for the Commanders' offense.

One of Hooker's biggest strengths is his mobility. He has the ability to extend plays with his legs, and he can also pick up first downs with his feet. In today's NFL, having a mobile quarterback is a huge advantage, as it allows teams to create more dynamic offensive schemes and puts pressure on opposing defenses.

Additionally, Hooker has shown that he has a strong arm and the ability to make accurate throws downfield. He has a quick release and is able to get the ball out of his hands quickly, which is essential in the fast-paced modern game. He is also a smart and decisive quarterback, who is able to read defenses and make good decisions with the football.

If the Commanders were to draft Hooker, they would be getting a quarterback who has the potential to be a dynamic playmaker and a true leader on the field. However, he would still need time to develop and adjust to the NFL game, which is why he would likely start out as the backup to Howell.

In the short term, having two talented quarterbacks on the roster would give the Commanders some valuable depth at the position. It would also give them some flexibility in terms of their offensive game plan, as they could use both quarterbacks in certain situations or packages.

However, in the long term, the Commanders would have to make a decision about who their franchise quarterback is going to be. If Hooker continues to develop and show progress, he could eventually surpass Howell and become the team's starter. On the other hand, if Howell continues to improve and play well, the Commanders could stick with him and let Hooker develop as his backup.

Ultimately, the decision of who to start at quarterback would come down to a number of factors, including the player's performance on the field, their leadership skills, and their ability to lead the team to victory. Both Hooker and Howell have the potential to be successful quarterbacks in the NFL, but it will ultimately be up to the Commanders' coaching staff to determine who is the best fit for the team.
