Joe Milton III Stands Out At Manning Passing Academy
Legendary NFL brothers Peyton and Eli Manning have spent their retirement years giving back to the game of football. They host a Monday Night Football telecast during the NFL season, support their nephew, Texas quarterback Arch Manning, and host the Manning Passing Academy during the offseason. The Manning Passing Academy is home to dozens of high-caliber college quarterbacks each offseason, and with Peyton being a Tennessee alum, plenty of Volunteers have attended over the years.
The Manning Passing Academy hosts dozens of college quarterbacks every summer in a showcase and workshop for their upcoming seasons. Peyton is a Tennessee alum with a passion for the Vols, and multiple Tennessee quarterbacks have attended the past few years. Hendon Hooker. Jarrett Guarantano, and Harrison Bailey were recent invites, and Joe Milton III added his name to that group this summer. Milton accepted an invitation to the event alongside several other important names at the quarterback position and dominated the event.
Milton delivered a series of viral throws that sent the internet into a frenzy. Peyton spoke with media ahead of the event and joked that he wasn't "sure the 30 (yard line) is safe with Joe. We might need to back him up on our own ten and give him 100 yards to work with." While that quote made the rounds on social media to everyone's amusement, Milton went out on the field and performed up-to-par with sky-high expectations. He's always stood out in pro-day settings. The raw arm talent is unparalleled across college football, and that much was reflected on Friday evening.
One year ago, Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson stepped into the Manning Passing Academy and dominated. He was in a similar situation to Milton - Richardson had flashed with the Gators but hadn't seen any substantial starting action. He took the reigns in 2023 and quickly became one the top stars in college football, ultimately becoming the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Many have compared the two, and Milton even capped up his performance on Friday night with a backflip reminiscent of the one Richardson did to end his workout last season.
This isn't the first time Milton has stood out in a workout setting this season. In a similar fashion, he made waves at the Steve Clarkson Quarterback Retreat earlier this summer. Milton launched a bevy of deep balls and ended things with his patented backflip. Everywhere he walks this offseason, it falls like all eyes are on Milton, which continues to be impressive, considering he was partnered with these quarterbacks at the Manning Passing Academy.
