Joe Milton III's Confidence During SEC Media Day Is Great For The Vols
Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton III was one of three Vol players to win Josh Heupel in Nashville for SEC media days last week. The projected starter for the Volunteers was very confident throughout the week and made that known to everyone in attendance.
Milton did multiple things that showed his confidence heading into next season. One thing was how he joined his companions on the trip, head coach Josh Heupel, defensive lineman Omari Thomas, and tight end Jacob Warren, in preaching the goal for Tennessee football this year: "Win the East." Milton later added to that short but powerful remark, "Whatever it takes to win the East. We don't put emphasis on anybody. We treat everybody the same. We want to win the East, no matter what it takes." With Milton claiming to do anything to get to Atlanta for the SEC championship, it can only mean good things for Vol football this fall.
Tennessee last went to an SEC championship game in 2007. The last time they won the title was 1998, when they also won the most recent of their six national titles. Milton also carried his confidence over to questions about his arm strength. This has been a hot topic all offseason about Milton's ability to hone his accuracy with his incredible strength to get the ball downfield easily.
A reporter asked Milton about his strength, claiming he "might" have the best arm talent in the SEC. Milton jokingly responded by saying that there is no debate in that question. He later added to this when asked about his strength, saying, "I kind of just have the mentality of "let it [the football] go," it does not matter to me where the receiver is." This crazy showing of confidence from Milton in Nashville can help the Tennessee team when football returns to Knoxville, Tennessee, in a little over a month.
