A Look at Tennessee's New QB Coach Joey Halzle

Joey Halzle introduced as Tennessee's New Quarterback

Joey Halze has been introduced as Tennessee's new quarterback's coach. Once again, Halzle follows Josh Heupel to his latest stop. The two have been somewhat connected at the hip over the last decade, both playing vital roles to the development of elite quarterbacks across the country.

Halze, who served at Oklahoma, Utah State, Missouri, and UCF, with Heupel, will now take over the quarterbacks room in Knoxville. Halzle took over as the Central Florida QB coach in January of 2020. He helped UCF sophomore quarterback Dillon Gabriel to a gaudy stat line. Gabriel connected on 248 of his 413 passing attempts for 3,570 yards and 32 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions.

Chris Weinke was relieved of his duties in January, and Heupel will inherit a talented group of signal-callers, including Harrison Bailey, Kaidon Salter, Hendon Hooker, and Brian Maurer.

Halzle, like Heupel played at Oklahoma, earning three letters from 2006-2008. He appeared in the 2008 national championship. Halzle was a three-time Big 12 conference champion during his time as a player at the University.
