Josh Heupel Sees Strong Future For Vols With New CFP Format
Tennessee Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel offered his thoughts on how the expanded College Football Playoff will affect his squad moving forward.
While he isn't at the podium each week breaking down how the Vols fared against their last opponent, Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel continues to offer comments during the offseason about what this program can be. Heupel joined the University of Tennessee's "Everything Orange" podcast to dish on next year's team, what the expectations are inside the building moving forward, and more.
One major topic he harped on was the expansion of the College Football Playoff. Beginning in 2024, twelve teams will make the field as opposed to four in the previous model. Heupel said that the field opening up even more means that they expect to be competing for postseason bids every single season. He's been adamant since joining the university that he has the resources to get there, and that's the standard they've set in the building.
"I am excited about who we are and what we have inside of this building, the opportunity that we have to continue to grow. I’ll be really excited when we get to next fall and start kicking off the football, too, but excited about who we are inside of this building and Tennessee’s a program that will have an opportunity to compete for those spots every year." - Josh Heupel on the expanded College Football Playoff
