Kaleb Webb Enters The Fold
On Saturday, the Tennessee Volunteers earned their third victory of the season with a 45-14 win over UTSA. The win pushed the Vols record to 3-1 on the season.
During the scoring display the Volunteers put on, freshman wide receiver Kaleb Webb earned the first touchdown of his Tennessee career. It came at the beginning of the second quarter and increased the Vols' lead to 20-0. It was also one of two of quarterback Joe Milton III's touchdown passes that he had during the game. Webb also had another catch on the game: a four-yarder. It was refreshing for Tennessee to see Webb back in the offense, as he had zero catches against Austin Peay and Florida.
Webb is a promising player for Tennessee in future years. He was highly recruited in high school as a four-star recruit out of Powder Springs, Georgia, playing for McEastern High School. He was a top-25 player in the state of Georgia and a top-50 wide receiver nationally. He was looked at by many schools other than Tennessee, like East Carolina, Michigan, Louisville, etc. But, he ultimately signed a letter of intent to the Vols on December 15th, 2021.
Webb is in a talented receiver room that has a lot of experience already with players like Ramel Keyton, Bru McCoy, Squirell White, etc. It is understandable and foreseeable that he will not fill up the stat sheet a whole lot this year. But this first touchdown against UTSA was the start of what can be a promising career for him. With Nico Iamaleava presumably as his quarterback when he finally receives a good amount of playing time, there should be plenty of exciting days ahead for Webb in orange.
