Kalen DeBoer Accepts Head Coaching Opening At Alabama
Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer has informed Washington officials that he will be accepting the Alabama head coaching job, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The Crimson Tide worked quickly to patch the opening after head coach Nick Saban retired on Wednesday evening. Several names were thrown into the hat, but DeBoer is the name that the Alabama officials landed on.
After one of the greatest coaching careers in any sport, Alabama head coach Nick Saban is retiring; ESPN's Chris Lowe broke the story first, reporting that Saban just informed the Crimson Tide team that he is done coaching. This comes almost a week after Alabama lost to the Michigan Wolverines in the 2023 College Football Playoff, a game that went to overtime and was eventually ended by a Michigan run-stop on fourth down.
Alabama has been the dominant force in college football since Saban took over. He restored the program to its former dominant heights, winning six national titles with Alabama. Saban also won a national championship with the LSU Tigers, giving him seven championship rings. That number is the most by any college football coach in the history of the sport, making Saban one of the greatest winners in the modern generation. It will be interesting to see how the Crimson Tide responds in the coming days and weeks to fill one the largest holes in the history of sports, as Saban is universally recognized as one of the greatest to ever do it.
